How will we blow you away, exactly? Or: Please help us build a second-to-none IX customer experience (Part 1 of 3)

Posted In: Awesome Company Stuff, Stuff Related to Service — Tags: , , , — Jun 23rd, 2009 at 1:58 pm EST by Fathi Said

Love us? Or Hate us?

Depending on your online journey with us so far, you could be in awe of how well we’re doing for you and in high anticipation of what’s coming next. Or you could read this as “Gee, thanks. My server is too slow and you still didn’t fix it. You already blew me away… far away, as your customer.”

Just two years ago, the first was wishful thinking. Our servers indeed were slow (in all honesty, a few still are). Backups were made sporadically. Downtimes were frequent. Customer service, suffering from low server performance, ran at a very low morale. If you look around online, you will find many negative reviews about us spanning that two-year timeframe. Despite all this, many of you stayed on board and with us, supporting us through the tough times, allowing us to outgrow the growing pains.

To all of you, our wonderful customers, I want to say thank you. There are no words that could express my gratitude, but there are actions.

In three parts, I would like to introduce to you the sweeping changes we wish to make to improve our company for you. I would like to ensure that your continued journey with us will be worthwhile for you. The only way to ensure this can happen is with your help and feedback. So please, don’t be shy!

Before I get started, I’d like to briefly recap our major milestones of the last two years:

  1. All service issues previously stated are now resolved.
  2. We’ve successfully deployed IronPort anti-spam and anti-virus filtering to our entire customer base; a very expensive project, but well worth it. For you, this eliminated 99.9% of all spam and virus emails received to your domains and created a significant uptime improvement for your email service with us.
  3. Database related servers (all types of SQL) have been dramatically accelerated through improved ‘abuse’ management and massive hardware upgrades. Compared to two years ago, today you will experience expedient and stable database connections.
  4. Today, we operate our data center out of a self-financed and owned, state-of-the-art 20,000 sq. ft. facility in Columbus, OH connected with Tier 1 Premium Bandwidth only at 5gbit/s (from Sprint and Qwest). At some data centers, you will find ‘cheap bandwidth’ resulting in longer loading times when visitors come to your website. These delays are hardly noticeable when you test for them yourself, but as long as they exist, your sites will lose visitors. But not with IX. At this facility, we would not even allow a mediocre bandwidth provider’s fiber optics to pollute our crystal-clear path of light. This industry-grade true Tier 3/4 data space can house over 10,000 servers, all self-managed and employee-owned.

In fact, I would love to give you a tour! If you happen to be visiting Columbus on business or you can spare a few hours on your trip, I’d love to show you around our data center. We’ve a few hundred customers in Columbus as well – you’re welcome any time. Give one of our representatives a call and we’ll meet soon!

So how will we make your hosting experience with us worthwhile?

This year alone, my company has committed to its single largest investment into customer service and the level of server performance you experience.

Old and New

Old and New

Before the year’s end, we are planning to upgrade our entire web hosting infrastructure. This should put an end to virtually all service-related issues. I can’t promise 100% uptime, but it’s what we’re shooting for. In detail, we will…

  1. Introduce Imperia, an ‘intelligent cloud’ hosting environment, for all of our customers. This effectively means that your websites, databases and email services will be hosted not on one server, but on hundreds or thousands, all at the same time. You could theoretically turn off half our data center, or take an axe to the server hosting your website – and it would be back online within seconds (in fact, it may not be down at all). Please don’t try any of the above by yourself.*
  2. Develop and launch a website management control panel featuring a state-of-the-art user interface that we are developing in-house right now. It is designed to make your life easier.
  3. Replace ALL existing hardware with brand new blade servers, centralized storage and a fiber-channel switching architecture. This is a multi-million dollar investment into our networking and server infrastructure that will make your sites load faster than any dedicated server ever could. If you were to rent an entire server and all it hosted was your website, it would load your site as slow as molasses compared to how fast your site will load on Imperia.

Our development team is starting a special Imperia VIP Membership that you can join if you are interested in providing feedback to help us test and optimize the new platform. As a VIP member, we’ll share top-secret development material with you, your suggestions will be considered first for upcoming releases and you’ll get early access to new releases (membership is, of course, free of cost.).

Stay tuned for Part 2 of 3, in which I will address a whole new approach to customer service.

Please don’t forget to let us know your opinion and feedback.

Thank you!

Fathi Said, CEO

WOW, that really sounds fantastic. When I started reading I thought to myself "what could they possible do to improve the hosting of my little site?". But I must say I an very excited to hear the plans you have. To be honest, I never knew there were problems and I am sold on your service as it is and I am still discovering all you currently offer. But if I had any doubt, this news settles it. I have chosen well in choosing IX.
  • Dale Dellutri
    > Develop and launch a website management control panel > featuring a state-of-the-art user interface that we are > developing in-house right now. It is designed to make > your life easier. If you mean that you are building a WebShell3 replacement, please be careful. I'm used to WebShell3, and anything that replaces it must be at least as good, and have all the functionality of WebShell3. There must be an overlap period of at least six months to allow me (and others?) to adjust.
  • I have been a customer for several years with 12 sites hosted with you guys. Thanks for the clear and passionate blog and I look forward to the shiny new ixwebhosting.
  • Nitrile
Awesome! I particularly love the "website management control panel featuring a state-of-the-art user interface" because 1998 called and wants its interface back. Also will the new cloud based severs, in combination with the new blade servers make the scripts that I have making thumbnails of large .jpges faster?
  • Fathi Said
Hello Dale, Thanks for your comment. We are actually building a new interface to everything that you see today, how you manage your domains, your emails, your website creator (that is, if you use SiteStudio, which is our current Website Creator) and much more. It will also include a new WebShell interface. While we design the new interfaces, we will be careful in ensuring that they are not only as, but a lot more user friendly than what you currently use. That is our main objective for the new user interface. I cannot promise that we will have a six month adjustment period, because our current WebShell will not be compatible with the new platform, however, we will let you test-drive the new user interface as long in advance as possible. Check back here soon, if you subscribe to the 'Imperia VIP Membership,' you'll be one of the first ones to see the new interface and we can make modifications based on your feedback.
  • Fathi Said
Hi Nitrile, It is very possible that your scripts could run a lot faster, but script run times more often than not really depend on how the script is written and how optimized it is. Each blade server will only be required to serve as much as it reasonably can, and any additional work will automatically be picked up by other servers. This will make server overloads very rare, which will also help your script's run times.
  • Segun Solanke
Exiting news! Am almost sold out for your service as it is now, but I know there is always room for improvement. Have hosted and registered over 50sites with you with no regret I must confess. But my only concern is your webmail application, for me is not user friendly. Lot of my client find it difficult to use thanks to pop mail(out look etc) that I configured for some of them, but can't we have option for our webmail application like we have experience with other providers. In which you can select your choice of web mail i.e hodes, round cube etc. Features like signatures, faster and user friend document attachment module should be consider in the upgrade to come. Keep up the good work!.
  • Karen
How do we sign up for the Imperia VIP Membership ? The plans sound interesting, look forward to seeing how it all goes.
  • edward
With these changes would there be a shell level access for commandline management?
  • MajorFusion
How do I sign up for your Imperia VIP Membership? I'm so there! I absolutely love your service. There's nothing out there that can compete and if you are improving your management interface and speed and stability even more, I'm so glad to be hosting with you still! I have gone through those hard times you speak of. Even though there were some issues, your support has always come through and kept me going. I'd love to keep up on the newest improvements you are making and want to be involved with your VIP Membership as soon as possible.
  • tony
I joined IX just over 2 years ago and the service has been great although its true there were downtime issues when i began. having said that I like the new Control panel CP6 and can't wait for the next improved version as as one comment said I also took sometime to understand webshell 3 and I hope the new one would be easier to understand. I have just renewed my membership for two years on the strength of your current and future plans.
  • Fathi Said
Hi Segun, We're working on just that also. Imperia will feature a brand new webmail client that you will hopefully like a lot more than Horde. Which webmail client that is out there is your favorite? I'll look into having signatures and user-friendly attachments in our first release or shortly thereafter.
  • Fathi Said
Karen, I'll be posting a location on where you can signup for VIP Membership on this blog shortly (in about 2-3 weeks). You can subscribe to our blog via RSS or via Email (top right corner of the blog) and it'll keep you informed of updates automatically.
  • Fathi Said
    Hi Edward, Yes!* *fingers crossed.
  • Fathi Said
Thanks for your kind words MajorFusion. Please check back here in 2-3 weeks for VIP access information. Just subscribe to our blog via RSS or via Email (top right section of the blog) and it'll update you automatically.

I never got any problem with IX hosting, they are doing a fantastic job! Just a little question here. As a webmaster of a SNS website, I start to concern your server about the ability of supporting mass simultaneous user online. Your guys sent me a ticket about "one database user can use 30 session in 30 sec" strategy which will be not enough to my website. Could you give me any hint of the future view about the simultaneous user supporting solusions? Thank you very much!
  • Blaine
Fathi, I am pleased as can be to hear about the new performance upgrades you are planning. But, to be honest, I am more interested in the Part 2 of 3 where you get further into the "Customer Service" aspect of the changes. Although I have had many issues with server downtimes, server glitches, and server settings changes without notification, it has not been near as frustrating as the "Customer Service" I have experienced while hosting with IX. I am going through one of those situations right now. And am close to just pulling my hair out and moving on. I do not want to go anywhere else. I have been with you for a long time, (even if my current account is only about a year and a half old) I have hosted with you in the past. I am used to things the way they are, and with the issues I have had with my site, and the down time, I am not sure my customer base (what is left of it) would survive a host transfer. I know you are a big CEO, but I would LOVE it if you would just take a few minutes out of your day to take a look at the trouble tickets I have open at the moment. I am almost sure you could pick up on some of the cause of my frustration. And, I must include. The customer service issues I have experienced do not span your entire staff. There are three people in your employ that you should thank your lucky stars for. Tibi, Frankie, and Michelle are three of the most caring, understanding, knowledgeable, and helpful people i have ever ran across (Yes Tibi too, even if he does say he only does it for his bonus..lol). On that same note, There have been VERY FEW good experiences in the "Live Chat Support". The two major responses I seem to get from there are "We do not provide coding support" and followed by "Please submit a ticket". As I stated so kindly to one of your chat support staff "It would be much less frustrating and more cost effective for IX if they just made the "Live Chat Support" link point to a page that in big bold letters read "Please Submit A Ticket". ". I anxiously await your next blog about the customer service. Thank you for your time, Blaine Wimberly

I like IX Webhosting a lot. For years I was with Affinity but I felt they were uninterested in me as a customer, and they were expensive. I found IX and mused it for almost a year, and had a few IT guys at work look over your site and got some positive reviews from them. I have to chime in and say I truly despise the whole Horde webmail interface. When I try to access it from your login page, I often get long hang times and Bad Request timeouts, and it just plain sucks. I get faster response by logging into the IX and then going through the Control Panel, but then I deal with extra windows opening up 2x which is a pain in the @$$. But other than that, I'm loving IX Webhosting, and am looking forward to your additions. V4V
  • Fathi Said
Xuming, I do have a hint indeed! Next week, we're releasing our series of VPS (Virtual Private Server) products, already hosted on a virtualized and centralized cloud infrastructure. These products are more expensive, but they provide you with SIGNIFICANTLY more power than a standard shared web hosting account. With a VPS server, you define your own rules, and all you need to watch for is the processing power and memory your applications use. Within that frame, you can operate in any way you like. In fact, you will have root access and can change your operating system on the fly as well. If you need more power, you just upgrade to a more powerful VPS plan within seconds. Check back here next week for more!
  • Fathi Said
Blaine, Thanks so much for your detailed post. I have asked for your tickets to be looked at immediately. I am very well-aware of all support issues you are currently describing and that why, really, posts 2 and 3 will deal with exactly how we intend to tackle this issue. I'd love to hear what you think about our plans in that regard. Please hang on, I will work hard to make it worthwhile. Thank you.
  • Rob Tanner
The only issue I have had besides a few down times here and there, is Database connections which you posted you are working on to improve. That is exciting. One more side note, the live chat is a great tool for customer service, I really like accessing the chat when my site is down, however most of the people that do live chat support do not always understand what is going on, kinda like calling the cable company when your internet is down and they tell you to power cycle your modem. *However I run a database driven website (all php) and when I go into the chat they ask my domain, I tell them and the pull up the static.html page and not the index.php and then from that point on treat me like I am some kind of moron because the html page loads fine. Even with issues and down times, I have renewed my hosting for another year and if any of your blog come true I see myself once again renewing next year!
  • Fathi Said
Rob - please hang in there! I'm working on the 'our customers are very intelligent' pill for our LiveChat, and it's almost swallowed! But I'll share some more on that in my next post. Thanks for staying on with us for so long!
  • Mike Hagerty
Fathi - Can you provide a bit more detail about the "intelligent cloud" portion of the upgrade? The Wiki summary on cloud computing left me with more questions than answers.
  • Guru
I am with you for 3 years .. i just realised you have joomla and wordpress scripts pre-installed... But when I contacted your support hat they told me that they are not available with my control panel... seems unfair that newer customers can get it and I cannot get it...
  • Jeff Walton
Security is a HUGE concern of mine with the current IX hosting products I use. Before considering any upgrade for new and shiny features, please enable secure FTP (SFTP) to provide encryption for your customers to manage their sites via SFTP as an opion to "in-the-clear" FTP. In addition, please add secure webmail access and phpmyadmin access. At the moment, horde and phpmyadmin do not support secure web HTTPS connections which is less than ideal in today's world. I'm sure I left off some other security tidbits, but SFTP secure web access were on the top of my list. These two security features can be quick fixes, no need to wait until we are in the cloud with Imperia, is there a way to flip the security switch now? Many other "less than advanced" hosting providers support these features already, but they cannot match IX for other services. Thanks, looking forward to a continued IX hosting experience, please consider these security features (and more). -JW

It is great to hear of your commitment to improving IX. I hope in your efforts, you can improve Site Studio. I would love to create better websites and appreciate your assistance for folks like me that are not experts. I know what I want..help me get there. Thanks for this blog and your efforts.
  • sweephard
Blaine Wimberly's experiences with IX support are quite comparable to mine. Rather than re-state the same material, let me make an additional observation. The usual result of a ticket is "we fixed it, please close the ticket". As a client, I have no idea what you did. I do not know what caused the problem (maybe something I did and I could avoid it?), I don't know what the problem was (I only know the symptoms), and I do not know what was done to fix it. When I reply to the ticket asking what happened, the typical result is "Administration didn't tell us". OK, why not? Don't they work for the same company? Can't you get "Administration" to update tickets escalated to them with some details?
  • Leo
This is great news, as long as it won't come with some service restrictions, as you did without prior advice with Dedicated Application Pools, and dedicated IPs per account. I used to hire to other companies hosting services with "unlimited, great and cheap features" as long as they are new in the market. After some customers arrive we get announces like "we are growing to provide you better service" and that means later "we reduce the service to the half it was and raise the prices to the double", that's why I am affraid of theese announces. Its true that sometimes your server's performance was low, but one of the reasons I keep using your services (and hired for whole two years) is the freedom of adding unlimited domains as long as I need them without careing also about amounts of traffic and space (I am not abusing of this freedom). Also, great Control Panel features and a fast and kind customer service. If all this comes without major service changes, well... let me say that if you offer a 10 years contract, I am taking it. Regards Leo
  • Xuming
That s awsome! Can I transfer everything to VPS by upgrading my business pro host accrount to vps to make it somoothly, or I have to do it step by step such like install new os new database and copy everything to the new vps? Thanks! Ming
  • Blaine
I wanted to take a minute and publicly eat my humble pie. With a mouth full, I would like to retract some of my statements above. No, not all of them but most of them. While, the LiveChat does leave a lot to be desired, it is not always their fault. Come to find out, when they said "We do not provide coding support" they were right. And my issue apparently was a coding issue, and not a database or server issue. As I am sure is almost always the case. However, after making a fuss over what I thought was a server/database issue, The upper management jumped into action and the problem was quickly resolved. I would like to personally thank Kenneth T. ( Senior Technical Specialist ), Michelle Schroeder (Director of User Experience), Frankie (phone tech support) and Mr. Fathi himself. For taking the time, and having the patience to deal with a tough customer such as myself. And through this experience, I have learned that not always is it customer support that sucks, sometimes it can be the customer himself who sucks. Which, was the case this time. Thank you all for everything you do, I am lucky to have such a dedicated team standing behind me and all of my sites. Thank you for your time, Blaine Wimberly

SECURE FTP Please make secure ftp an urgent priority. I'd be thrilled to have it on my server today, if you are in progress of adding now. There are compromised password issues and repeated malicious code injection into my site's files that make this an urgent priority for me. Here is quote of the advice I got on a technical board replying to the compromised ftp password issue when I mentioned "My shared ISP does not offer secure ftp." Reply: Then really you should look for another host that does - there is little excuse for not offering secure FTP these days, it does sound as if your current host has an overly-lax attitude towards security which puts you at a disadvantage. I am not being critical to ix with this post (there has been so much to applaud in the past), but the reply above is a generic one from a third party addressed to any ISP. But it does cause me concern that ix should add secure ftp pronto!! Meanwhile, since I am also told the issue may be on my own PC, I'm running many and various scans from different sources, most recently RootkitRevealer (which still shows nothing I can identify as suspect.) To end on a high note, I must compliment the ix phone tech support for their efforts and guidance to solve the problem.
  • scienceguy
CONTROL PANEL I hope the new control panel removes this instance: When going from the manage ftp page to EDIT a cron job, the edit button is right night to the ON button. A slight slip of the cursor, and the cron is OFF ... with everything wiped from existence. Reinstating is a major pain, (made easier by having a text file with the information I need saved on my PC). Cron job lines are cumbersome, and can be hard to get right in the first place. Losing them by a cursor slip between the two buttons can easily be avoided by separating the buttons, adding "Are you sure you want to delete all cron jobs", or having a reinstate option when turned back on again. Failing all else, have a text advisory to backup the information in a text file, or even email the confirmation as a record to keep.
  • scienceguy
SITEWIDE BACKUP File Manager can make an archive, but only in small chunks. My site, which isn't all that big, really, is big enough to cause File Manager to time out and I can't get a backup in one pass. Fortunately, phone tech support can help so I can get an occasional backup, and I believe you have backups for real emergencies. However, when I needed to download my entire site for myself to inspect the many files, I could only do it incrementally. Well, there with the previous posts, there are three suggestions for improvements that I hope you find useful. Again, I do want to be certain that I am complimentary about the functioning of the site overall.
  • Scott
I been with IX since 2005 and am on the Unlimited Pro plan. I have been with 2 other host before that and don't see me leaving IX unless I go to a VPS or Dedicated Server (Which I have been thinking about for the future). I wont say I have never had a problem as that would be a lie. Every host no matter who they are has problems. That is just the way computers are and will always be. It's how the host deals with the problems that makes them a good or bad host. When ever I need tech help which is once in a blue moon tech support by live chat seems to do more then just a good job and makes me feel good by the end of it instead of treating me like a number or someone who does not have a background in programming, networking, and website administration.
  • Scott
Part 2 - VPS's So how can IX better themselves, option for VPS hosting would be a nice option, it will cost a bit more for customers then webhosting plans and it would mean a fixed bandwidth, shared ram and space, but what you would get is people who want to run application servers and can't pay for fully Dedicated Servers. People like me who are programmers and want to run a server side application for client side software for cheap. Most VPS, are only $20 - $30 /month.
  • Scott
Part 3 - DEDICATED SERVERS Also another way to not only bring income in but customers looking for much more then just webhosting is to take the old servers you are going to be getting rid of and reuse them. You could put them up for Dedicated Servers that people could rent. Even better is an option that I look for from hosts that rent Dedicated Servers. It called Rent-To-Own were you rent the server for so many months and then after that amount of time the customer will own the server and can A) have it shipped to them (they pay shipping), or B)Keep it in the data center and pay a low fee for the rack space and the bandwidth which I seen as cheap as only $50 for a 1U. So you could be renting a server for 6 months at $80 - $90 /month and then own it and be only paying $50 to keep it in the datacenter. You would have to pay for hardware and what not that needs to be replace or upgraded if you can't go in and do it yourself. other then them options, keep up the good work IX, and I hope to see blogs, and cms, added to the new control panel for one click installs. ; ) Scott, PS: scienceguy is right about the FTP problem.
  • mjs3790225
I had the same problem. However, you can get all those options for free by asking the tech team to upgrade your control panel. Once you are the latest version of that, you have access to those features. Upgrading is a pain if you have a lot of stuff though, as essentially you are moving to a new server from what I understand.
  • mjs3790225
I agree with sweephard. I'd like to know what was wrong as well. I'm definitely not an expert at everything web related, I'm sure I have accidentally messed something up or overlooked something simple. But if I can know what had happened, I'm sure I can be more careful not to do it again, or understand how to fix it myself the next time it does occur.
  • mjs3790226
Agreed! The File Manager is terrible for backups! It will always time out on me when making an archive or uncompressing one. And sometimes it will look like its done, and when you go to look at what you unpacked, not everything is there! I'm afraid to trust it with anything, and I really hope an alternate tool/procedure is developed for backup/restore processes. FTP is far to slow to do that.
  • mjs3790225
This indeed sounds exciting. I've been with you all since 2003 I believe. Maybe 2004. Anyway, when I first started back then, I was website novice and didn't need a lot of advanced features. Nowadays, I am a bit more advanced, though still learning. That being said, I am doing more complicated things. And one aspect I would truly love to see some improvement is SQL performance. My database driven parts of my site are very slow. Its rather depressing at times. Actually, more like frustrating. I loath having to update those portions. Click, wait, load, click, wait, failed load, refresh, wait, load, click . . . When I updated to the latest version of the control panel, I was hoping I would get a performance jump with that. At the moment, I can't say I have. That's my main thing right now. I need database performance to be faster and more reliable. HTML pages load nice and fast though, so I am pleased with that! : ) Please, a new solution to webmail is greatly needed. Horde is terrible. I never liked it to begin with, and I don't like it any better now. It just runs sooo slow. However, IMAP access is super great! And I am glad you offer it! Thanks! I use IMAP whenever I can, but not everyone that has an E-Mail address with me likes to use a client, and that's were webmail comes in. A way to backup and restore mail would also be a nice feature to include. SFTP and shell access would be a great addition. Webshell3 or whatever is on the control panel is not that great. The File Manger has lead me to many hours of frustration and despair. It cannot be trusted to do archive backups and restorations as I am often missing files in the end. Uncompressing archives is usually a fail regardless of how lightly I try to treat it. And I can't ever figure out if its actually done, or still working on something. Oh, and a little shout out to phone tech: you are all some of the best people I have talked with! I am surprised at the level of help they give me sometimes. Thanks all! Ticket support is okay most of the time. But like another said above, I would love to know what went wrong and what was done to fix whatever was wrong. php.ini access would be pretty cool. Tech support sent me some file to work with, but I can't figure out what the heck I am supposed to do with it. Like I said, I don't claim to be an expert at all this, a little attached instruction might be cool. Its not a php.ini file that's for sure. Downtime. I don't really experience much downtime other than when database stuff is overloaded and will fail to load anything and timeout. However, I have noticed a pattern recently that all sites hosted on my plan will fail to load at some early hours in the morning. Usually around the 3am EST time. The time for them to come back on varies each time I find them down. That troubles me greatly. Tickets have come back as "the problem as been fixed" and I'm all like ">_< what was wrong anyway?" Anyway, this aspect of cloud computing interests me greatly. Not gonna lie, I was looking at different webhosts minutes before I got this announcement in my E-Mail. Like I said, I need better performance, especially since I am starting to work on more advanced things now. I don't have many clients, but the ones I do have, are personal friends of mine, and I don't want to let them down. If you all can pull off bumping my performance up a lot, I'll renew again. However, if nothing ever comes around, I feel I may be switching soon : / I really don't want to do that though, I like you all. So yeah, I'll stick around for a while more. I can't wait to see what happens! Lol, I still may be calling phone tech soon and asking about faster database service though. I'll let you know if I think of anything else! Laterz!
  • KeithMcD
Horray! I <3 ssh management! Sounds very exciting. Except for the recent downtime I experienced (web405), I've always been very happy with IX. Keith
  • Jacob
I've been with IX Webhosting for a while, and the new changes sound great- but I have yet to see the benefit of the highly-touted antispam feature. I cannot, in my line of work, use a webmail interface, and the near-total lack of spam control through my pop accounts, sadly, has me shopping for another hosting solution. The help desk solution was to configure rules to help filter it... really? Is that the best solution? I would love to stay with you guys- but when I receive over 300 junk mails a day from just one of my domains (forget the other 4) you begin to see why this is really something that should be addressed. I don't mean to turn this into gripe-fest... but I think before you guys set such lofty goals, perhaps you'd consider getting one of the very basics right first.
  • Chris Widmer
+1 on SFTP...security is a must. The ProFTPD FTP servers that IX use can support SFTP. Please don't make loyal customers wait until your next major upgrade, such as cloud servers to implement such a basic security feature as SFTP. The inability to manage our web sites securely via SFTP is the biggest downside to IX. Sure I can use a VPN to encrypt my traffic when I'm sitting at a wifi hotspot in the cafe, but once the traffic leaves my VPN endpoint, it's clear text FTP credentials again anyway. I agree with scienceguy, Jeff Walton and other commenters, turn on the SFTP please.

CONTROL PANEL replacement: Yes dump the crummy hSphere manager, but the industry standard is cPanel. It's reliable, works great, already debugged. Don't reinvent the wheel with an in-house thing that you (we) will have to debug and re-learn.
  • Joe
Will the new panel be more friendly toward software apps that are designed around Cpanel?
  • Fathi Said
Hi Xuming, The VPS is hosted on a totally different platform, so you would have to reupload your files. The VPS management control panel we provide will install the OS for you (and even cPanel or Plesk for free, based on your choice of plan), so you don't have to do that yourself; but you would have to setup all your databases and files there yourself. Once you're moved over to the VPS completely, you can simply cancel your Business Pro Plan and call it a day (bye bye shared hosting)! Check our site on Tuesday next week. VPS should be available then <excited!>
  • Fathi Said
Blaine, thanks for your kind words. We should have been helpful enough in the first place. I'm happy we were able to get everything fixed for you. Btw: Customers never suck. :)
  • Fathi Said
Mike, we'll release more information about this in the Imperia VIP club. I'll be posting more about how you can join in a post in two or three weeks when we will have the first material to show.
  • Fathi Said
Plus - all current and state of the art scripts will be available once everyone is on Imperia, which will stay updated for good. There'll be no more difference between old and new accounts.
  • Fathi Said
I completely agree. Check out my 2nd part post next week about our upcoming service improvements. I believe it will address all points both of you brought up.
  • Fathi Said
Hello Joe, Could you describe what kind of applications you are referring to exactly? I'll see what we can do.
  • Fathi Said
Maineman, I think I can do you an even better one. While cPanel is reliable and works, it does not (currently) properly support a cloud based infrastructure and the type of advanced functionality we are working on - nor is it very user friendly - at least not compared to what we're building. And we've had plenty of opportunity to learn from cPanel - hopefully avoiding the mistakes along the way. I'll be curious to see your opinion once you see Imperia.

I currently have 28 domains hosted with IX and have been here since 2006. I lost my full time job back in February and have since been working very hard at building my freelance web design business. I expect to have several more domains coming on board before the end of the year. With this in mind, I am very pleased to hear that you are making a serious commitment to the future of your company and improving the quality of your services. I have to say that I am very much looking forward to part 2 as I have working in technical support / customer service for nearly 10 years. You can provide nearly 100% uptime, but when a customer has a question/issue and the person on the other end of the phone/chat/ticket doesn't answer the question or provide the proper information, you seriously risk losing them. I have to say that your phone support staff is *phenomenal*. However, your live chat staff leave a lot to be desired. Have a look at some of my transcripts and you'll see what I mean (I'd be happy to send you my copies if you would like). I mentioned this lack of live chat support to the last phone support person I spoke with and they said that there were some changes in the works. I hope so, and I wish you the best of luck. P.S. - I am very interested in your Imperia VIP Membership. As I said, I am a very customer service oriented person and not afraid to share my point of view (you really should read some of my chat transcripts).
  • mjs3790225
Hey awesome! That's excellent to hear! :D
  • kennyworker
I've use IX for more than 3 years, I like the live chat, these news sounds great, I'm waiting the following...
  • recraig2
Sweephard is right. Since we are customers we deserve an answer when something needs to be fixed. If we ask what was the problem we deserve an intelligent answer even if we are too stupid to understand the details of it. It is called "accountability". We are holding you accountable for any problems that might need fixing on your side and you should be transparent with your customers. Ambiguity builds suspicion. Suspicion drives customers away and builds bad rep. Secure FTP - I thought we had that here, but I wouldn't know. I have never been able to get FTP to work consistently and I never get a clear answer. I am told that it works fine on your end. But then you don't need to FTP to your own server, do you? Then I was told to re-route any further problems through live chat! What is THAT! Live chat told me to route them through the ticket system. So now the problem is just a joke among the tech support. Great! I'll never have FTP working properly with your service. Joomla is badly outdated in your auto-install packages. There are many security issues related with the programs you still have there. I would like to see that area maintained. I had to manually install Joomla, so that part of your service was useless, for security reasons. Insecure Horde, insecure FTP, insecure versions of software for auto-install... I think there is a pattern.
  • recaig2
Now for the positive... I love the Live chat. Many issues with configuration for my website or help with Joomla errors were fixed easily and quickly. These guys rock! The Ticket system is answered within a day usually. This isn't very fast, but it's acceptable for a business environment. My overall experience with IX Webhosting has been rather good. I have recommended it to other business colleagues. DEEP SECURITY CONCERNS I am deeply concerned about the security of cloud hosting or whatever it's specifically called. I don't want my material on thousands of servers around the world. I don't know whether they are trustworthy, secure, etc... I didn't hire their services. I hired YOURS! With the other security issues in basic services it worries me that you may not be taking the security issue seriously enough and that you haven't researched and won't test the security issues involved adequately enough.
  • recaig2
Jordon, if you'd like a job with them, shouldn't you compose an introductory letter and provide these chat transcripts attached to a CV? Good luck. I differ from Jordan, in that I believe the Live chat support from the Ukrainian guys is fantastic! The Ticket system guys is what lacks from a customer viewpoint.
  • Fathi Said
Imperia will feature time-machine like tool that will allow you to go back in time in your account and access any parts of your files, at any time in the past (within a certain scope). But more on that soon :)
  • Fathi Said
Hi Scott, our VPS offering is launching next week. Check back on Tuesday, the prices start between $30-$40/month. Update 07/09: We&#039;re up and running with VPS! <a href="http://www.ixwebhosting.com/index.php/v2/pages.vp..." target="_blank"><a href="http://www.ixwebhosting.com/index.php/v2/pages.vp..." target="_blank">http://www.ixwebhosting.com/index.php/v2/pages.vp...
  • Fathi Said
Scott, thanks a lot for your great feedback. We&#039;ve dedicated servers in plan exactly using our equipment we use to host everyone&#039;s sites right now. Pricing will be very reasonable although not as low as you mentioned. It&#039;ll be towards the end of the year when we&#039;ll launch this.
  • Fathi Said
Mjs, thanks so much for your detailed feedback. I will try to respond in all briefness. I am aware of the database issues. Generally spoken, we&#039;ve designed the new infrastructure to alleviate ALL problems of this kind, any overloads, slowness and even downtime. Therefore, all that is supposed to be history later this year when we migrate everything to Imperia. Webmail will be replaced as well as the File Manager, there will be backup solutions that are far more advanced and that you will have direct access to (even though it&#039;s not certain if email is covered or not in our first release) and I&#039;ve noted down SFTP as a much requested feature. What would you need php.ini for? What exactly are you looking to customize? It would be great if you joined our Imperia VIP Membership. I&#039;ll follow up with details on that shortly.
  • Fathi Said
Jacob, thanks for bringing up your concerns in regards to our anti spam filtering. IronPort is a highly capable anti-spam filter, at least - it should be! I&#039;ll have someone contact you to see what exactly is going on that you&#039;re still getting that much spam. You really shouldn&#039;t. You should hear from us first thing Monday.
  • Fathi Said
We just updated all auto-install software. As far as SFTP and Horde is concerned - Imperia will take care of both issues. Pattern disrupt. :)
  • Fathi Said
There is no reason to be concerned about our new system infrastructure. We still own, maintain and house all hardware internally in our data center. Nothing will be sent around the world. Your website and other Internet &#039;stuff&#039; will still be in good hands.
  • Todd Van Etten
Speaking of being blown away... I have seen some Google ads already for IX Webhosting VPS......and now I noticed today in my control panel that VPS Products links shows up. When can we expect to see VPS offered?
  • tiberiuu
David, I have good news and bad news. The bad news are it is unlikely that you will see any improvements on SiteStudio. It is actually likely that this software will be eventually phased out. The good news is we are working on implementing a Website Creator that is (in my opinion) about 1000 times better (much like the difference between a horse-buggy and a jet airplane). Of course, when we decide to take this step and introduce the new Website Creator, we will probably keep SiteStudio for a (long) while, so all the customers will have time to adjust to the new light-speed of the new software :)
  • tiberiuu
I will take most of the heat for this issue. One of the problems I encountered in the past 3 years is we as a company grew faster than I could grow the Sysadmin department. Which means every sysadmin had to solve more and more problems every day. And if sometimes there was a global problem, which triggered... say 15 tickets, it is in the human nature of the sysadmin who worked on the problem to update one or two with full details, and then, instead of continuing to update all the tickets with all the details will probably reply with &quot;problem fixed&quot;. In adition to that, let me assure you that if you open a ticket and it turns out it was a problem caused by you (rather than something global), you will be informed on what you did wrong, or what you weren&#039;t supposed to do. And as far as &quot;we fixed it, please close the ticket&quot; goes, I want to add that our ticketing system will only allow to close a ticket the person who opened it, which is in our opinion the only person who can actually verify that the problem was truly fixed. However, let me stress (again) that our Customer Service department is going right now through big changes, and our CEO will introduce you to the New User Experience shortly!
  • tiberiuu
as I mentioned a few seconds earlier we are working on multiple ftp security issues. for instance, you will soon be able to specify what are the IP addresses you want to allow ftp from (and nobody else would be able to ftp in your account). actually, this feature is already here, but is in beta stage. If you want to test it, visit my blog post at <a href="http://status.ixwebhosting.com/2009/06/30/extra-f..." target="_blank">http://status.ixwebhosting.com/2009/06/30/extra-f... and join the tester&#039;s group. as far as FTPs is concerned, that&#039;s also in the works.
  • tiberiuu
Scott, you will not have to leave IX even if you go to a VPS or Dedicated Server. Don&#039;t tell anybody, but this features are also in the works, and some will be released soon :) (BIG SECRET! Keep it just between us!)
  • scienceguy
So, meanwhile, how to sign up for Imperia VIP Membership and check this out?
  • recraig2
So then what is this? In-house? &quot;Introduce Imperia, an &lsquo;intelligent cloud&rsquo; hosting environment, for all of our customers. This effectively means that your websites, databases and email services will be hosted not on one server, but on hundreds or thousands, all at the same time. You could theoretically turn off half our data center, or take an axe to the server hosting your website &ndash; and it would be back online within seconds (in fact, it may not be down at all). Please don&rsquo;t try any of the above by yourself.&quot; If all of these servers are in-house then great. If not, then...
  • Fathi Said
Whops, I don&#039;t believe those were supposed to show up just yet. We&#039;re very close to release. I&#039;m counting on next week, fingers crossed.
  • Fathi Said
I&#039;ll make an announcement on the blog about this towards the end of the month, when we actually start to have something to show you for Imperia. Thanks for all your interest.
  • Fathi Said
    Yes, all in-house.
  • recraig2
Well, not in mine. Joomla is still at 1.5.2, yet Joomla has gone through 10 security releases since then and are at Joomla 1.5.12 This is just an example.
  • recraig2
So you will have hundreds or thousands of servers in-house? You&#039;re not sure though whether it will be hundreds or it will be thousands? Isn&#039;t there a price difference for you to purchase, house and maintain a few thousand servers over a few hundred? Surely, you&#039;re not serious.
  • recraig2
How about the size limitations. I keep running into them here and there. For example I wanted to import a database with phpmyadmin. Unfortunately, my database backup was 6M and the limitation in this interface was 2M. So then I had to go through and break it up into parts. The problem is that one of my tables is 5M of the 6M. It&#039;s a Joomla extension that&#039;s creating that data. However, this is a realistic business scenario. Yet, there is no alternative for us to manage our own database imports of large tables aside from coding out the SQL into partial table imports? I thought this was supposed to be an easy and accessible service for businesses. It is a Business Plan that I have signed up for. I&#039;m sure I&#039;m not the only one who has run into this wall. A second example is the unusually small limitation on compressed files. The apps being used for your service are dramatically outdated in their anticipations of users&#039; needs, particularly in a business environment. Perhaps consider the size limitations when you look at the next UI tools for us. That would be a huge leap from the stone age apps we are using here. Horde feels like Windows 3.11. Please! Give us something more modern. Thanks.
  • Jeff Walton
Hi, I was hoping for Ftp-over-SSH, (SSH File Transfer Protocol) but if you are working on Ftp-over-SSL, that&#039;s great too. Most FTP clients such as filezilla or fetch support either SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) or FTPS (FTP with TLS/SSL).
  • Rick Jungerberg
Fathi, Same goes for me. I have opened 2 tickest in the last month ref the SPAM problem. Last week I had over 900 SPAM emails in just one of my email accounts. They tell me they will be implementing SMTP authentication on the servers &quot;soon&quot; Soon can not come soon enough. Please have someone contact me also. Rick Jungerberg
  • Mitch
Fathi I must say that Blaine hits the nail on the head when it comes to describing the sheer torture of dealing with IX customer support. &quot;Tearing your hear out&quot; is very accurate. From downtime experiences that one support person will confirm and then other support people will subsequently deny, to staff who do not read tickets to get an issue&#039;s history - causing the famous IX going-around-in-circles infinite loop, to support staff who don&#039;t know what they&#039;re saying, to tech support members who change settings and passwords in your profile without asking - breaking your sites, the list goes on. Whenever I read a comment from your staff saying &quot;we&#039;re oh so sorry please accept our apologies for being useless&quot; I need to scream. Sorry for being so harsh - and for being mean to your staff on so many tickets - but it seriously is TORTURE dealing with your company. I have only stayed with IX because you offer multiple SQL databases in the same account. If it weren&#039;t for that single feature, I would have left years ago. And when you changed data centers, the service - both customer service and uptime/site speed/etc. has gotten worse. I seriously hope that you can deliver on all three of your improvement steps and that this includes FIXING the customer service black hole.

I am glade that everyone is having a great experience with ixhosting... unfortunately I am not sharing the same enjoyment as all of you. 2 major issues: 1- After over six month the technicien is not able to move our site. 2- We opted for spam guard and were sold on it. but just after we moved our email server to ixhosting they cancelled spam guard service and the result is that we know receive over 600 spam mail per day and are waisting time on cleaning spam instead of focusing on our real daily job. NO excuses or good explanations were given to us on why we can not use spamguard and our email experience is being a daily pain
  • Zee
We need new hip flash website builder to replace the old site builder.
  • Josh
I like what I hear so far. Although actions speak louder than words! I&#039;ve been with IX for a few years now and now what you guys are talking about. I have had a few rough times, but overall I&#039;m happy with the service. I am really looking forward to NO spam!!! I hate it. Thanks IX and keep up the good work!
  • John
I think there is a large market for potential IX for customers looking for a easy to use Control Panel and excellent CMS support. Right now IX is lacking in both but from the sounds of it, it will be addressed in the future.
  • charlesgres
Great to hear you are working on performance, I found ixwebhosting to be on the slow side in the past, but that&#039;s about the only complaint I had. The only other thing that has me wanting to look for other pastures, is J2EE support. I would like to be apple to deploy my Java web applications, like I am told I can do with Google App Engine: <a href="http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/whatisgoogl..." target="_blank">http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/whatisgoogl... If you guys can do that, that would be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!
  • Tim
I am surprised to see that no one from IX has commented on any of the issues/concerns listed here. IX, please have someone respond publicly to some of the issues here, as they seem to be common amongst many of you customers!
  • Jeff Walton
@Tim If you click the &quot;1 reply&quot; &quot;2 reply&quot; and so forth under some of the above posts, you&#039;ll see that IX staff have indeed been replying to the issues, providing more details, etc. It&#039;s the way that the intensedepate commenting plug-in works, the replies are collapsed by default, not sure if there is a way for IX staff to expand automatically.

If this is true I will be one of the happiest people in the world. Right now I have seen and am reading this only because my sites are down (again). LOL
  • Sean Hansen
Well, I have to say, I was *THIS* close to moving away last year; our guitar contest site <a href="http://www.InfamousGuitar.com" target="_blank">www.InfamousGuitar.com was having major database issues...but whatever you guys did made all the difference. It has been 3 months since I got a message from one of our thousands of members that the site was down, or that there were database issues. Well done, IX.
  • Rick Jungerberg
SPAM problems need to be fixed Please fix the SPAM problem before you make ant new changes. I am getting 100-150 SPAM emails a day on just one of my email accounts. I have even been switched to a server that has email authentication and it has not helped. I realize I am &quot;small potatoes&quot; with only 4 domains but I have sent a number of people your way. This is great... Here is my response from support: &quot;I regret, but our administrators checked headers and we can tell you, that such e-mail messages were delivered to your account, because they were sent from IP addresses with high Spam reputation. It is impossible to delete message based on message inside. As we have already suggest you, you need to use spam filters to avoid such spam e-mails. Should you have any further question feel free to contact us and we will be glad to assist you.&quot; I sure hope Fathi responds.
  • John
I have been with you for a year and have signed up for another 6 months...why not a signing for a year at a time? It has been caused by down time, server problems and the worst of all is the Live Chat Service Group. They are the worst. all you ever get is fill out a trouble ticket. I am not paying for crap like that. The only thing that saved my account was the 1-800 support group. I want to develop a long term relationship with IXWebhosting so I hope that the next 6 months will be everything that you are saying. I wish you the best and hope that you only get better in service! Thanks, you have my support. John
  • Mark Whitman
I appreciate the transparent and proactive communication. I have toured the data center and it is impressive.
  • Duberney
Thank you very much for your help. But ... I would like to change the default error pages, the I feel really uncomfortable having to change each one to a page each time I create a new domain and / or subdomain
  • kat
will you be offering php5 anytime soon? i have had no problems and think your services are far and away one of the best host providers i have dealt with and that you offer the best deals without cutting the customer service like some other (ns) (y) avid*cough* providers i have tried. and php5 is probably the only thing i can think of that would truly make you cutting edge. prob with not upgrading it is that alot of the OS software i use has gone on and no longer support older versons of php, and the php site itself hasn&#039;t supported it for over a year... so..
  • JeffK
&gt;&gt;today you will experience expedient and stable database connections.&lt;&lt; That is a crock full of BS. My experiences over the past several months to a year have been less than eventful as regards to this issue. There are never ending issues with database connections and outright failure of the servers, and they always seen to come at the very worst times. Like right today, I am attempting to upgrade SugarCRM and the whole damn system has collapsed. So I can&#039;t do any work in that platform. Just a few weeks ago I had the databases moved because of server connection interruptions. I was told that all my troubles with this issue would end. That was a lie because not more than a week had gone by and the issues started all over again. Technical support trouble tickets can take days to get anyone to respond to them. And, being that most if not all of the technical support is in the Ukraine or Russia the response time for a trouble ticket is always an issue to the time difference between the US and Russia. Why is it that all the tech support staff is all in Russia?
  • Pastor Dan
I have to say your company is one of the best hosting company I have found. I&#039;ve had other hosting companies before and always had problems. Not with yours, keep up with the good work.
  • Ruchi
This is Great , but i hope you do it before it is too late and we go away with your hosting service, in past few months my site have faced quite a bit of problem, going down , slow speed etc. I would surely like to stay provided I get what i wanted.
  • Faust
I&#039;m looking forward for such endeavor, I know this will be a major leap in improving hosting services. cheers up guys
  • recraig2
Josh, I get NO spam here at IX. Absolutely not a one ever. :-) It must be the places you&#039;re hanging out and who you&#039;re hanging out with. :-D (just ribbing you)...
  • recraig2
Wow! Your troubles must be really bad if the Live Chat can&#039;t help. They have helped me about 90% of the time and very quickly. They are really great people. It&#039;s the Ticket Support that has never solved any of my problems. They have tried, but it just takes so long and in the end it is left hanging with no solution. It might not always be their fault, but sometimes it is.
  • recraig2
I&#039;ve never received spam here at IX. If I do I would leave in a heartbeat. Spam is absolutely unacceptable in a professional BUSINESS hosting service.
  • recraig2
The best I&#039;ve had was in NYC, but they are too expensive for my standard of living in eastern Poland now. ;-) IX is close to as good, but affordable here in Poland.
  • recraig2
I also have experienced down-time, that would have stayed down had I not noticed it and acted. That was inconceivable! IX should detect it and get it back up! I&#039;ve also had very slow hosting, I believe due to the Database server, but haven&#039;t verified it. FTP has been a pain in the tush! The only program that works for me is the extension for Firefox and that is unbearably slow! 24 hours to synchronize a fresh Joomla install with my local machine. None of the FTP programs work, some vanish midstream, others copy partial files, etc... Awful! Ticket guys haven&#039;t been able to solve these FTP issues either. So I am stuck with a Firefox extension and 24 hours to synchronize.
  • recraig2
Another limitation that indicates there are security problems... email passwords. The limitation is 5-12 letters. That is very old technology if it limits it to 12 letters at max. Gmail allows for my long passwords without complaints. This email service is grossly outdated. I was actually shocked when I saw the old Windows 3.1 interface in Horde. As you can imagine, I was skeptical and it has shown itself so far as rightly placed skepticism. I am still not skeptical of IX, though. I know you guys want to build a great hosting service. I just think you aren&#039;t quite there yet. In many ways it is superb and in other important and less visible ways it sucks. I hope we are helping to enlighten you as to what needs updating, improving, overhauling or simply thrown out and a new one put in. Btw, where are the other posts I made earlier today? They are taking a long time to show up here. ;-)
  • mjs3790225
Awesome. All great news. I was trying to get the php.ini file to adjust some settings when I was installing a message board (phpbb) and a CMS (joomla). I encountered these problems only when trying to do a manual install, however, if I used your all&#039;s included quick setup app thingy, it worked fine. So IDK. Its all working now, so that&#039;s cool. But I would like to be able to do manual installs. Quick install apps don&#039;t let me control database name and whatnot. All that&#039;s locked on install. Yeah, I&#039;d def be interested in your all&#039;s Imperia thing. Keep me posted!
  • recraig2
The support staff are only a few kilometers from me, so I&#039;m ok with that. ;-) I&#039;m an American business man working in Poland. However, you are right about the Database servers Jeff. I had exactly the same problems. They first claimed it was a problem with my Internet provider. Ha! Can you believe that? Without any tests for me to perform they blamed someone else. Then a few days later they informed me that they had moved my databases to a new server and would update some links somewhere. Raspberries! In my case it did improve the speed back to normal. I haven&#039;t gotten past other issues enough to tell if it is still good.
  • recraig2
This is an absurdity! The file manager interface they provide us limits us to 2M compressed files for uncompressing. This is like 1995 technology, Windows 3.1 days! My gosh! Who deals in 2M compressed files anymore? One Joomla install zip is 6.5M and contains thousands of folders and files. Ftp is terribly slow up to IX. It has never worked consistently enough to finish uploading a Joomla install tree directory. I have tried almost 20 times over the past 6 months, with tech support. It has NEVER happened. So I have had to upload the zip file and ask Live Help to unpack it for me. They were great. They&#039;d do it without question. In fact, they first suggested it. I thought it was an inconvenience that I had that little less control over my own account, but that was nothing until today. This morning I started to set up another Joomla site. Live Help refused to help. They wanted me to create a ticket just to uncompress one stupid file. She claimed she had no access to the server. I told her I didn&#039;t believe her, since every time I had done this Live Help had completed it for me. But I thanked her and bid her farewell. I&#039;ve filled out a ticket and now I must wait anywhere from hours to days to get one stupid 6.5M file uncompressed. All my production for that site has suddenly come to a complete halt! My business for that site is dead until they unpack one stupid little file. There ya go! I hope this is not a sign of the times at IX. Please tell me it is a glitch in the support system.
  • KiranH
Fantastico, Backup Wizard, and Spam Assassin would be nice.
  • Eric Godfrey
I have to say IX is the best web services company I have ever been with and that although Service is awesome very frustrating on Customer Support it is far superior to many I have dealt with. I do have 2 problems however and I am seriously debating moving my accounts elsewhere on one of them. Your post stated you got rid of 99.9 % of SPAM on email. NOT SO! After waiting literally years, i saw little to no change when you made the transition. I get about 1000 emails a day in my main account and about 90% of that is SPAM. I currently pay for 2 other services to filter the SPAM but they do not work flawlessly and I average about an hour a day just removing or working on SPAM issues. If you installed it and it is 99.9% effective.. all of that .1 percent is coming to me... daily. Next issue... you need better documentation online. There have been a myriad of issues over the years that had i had the documents your support people were reading and quoting on their end I could have fixed the issue myself. So many things like pathnames and relative paths on your servers when installing programs and cron jobs have been extremely lengthy and tedious. All that said i want to thank you for caring and for taking the interest in making things better. I am literally in the process of setting up servers elsewhere over the SPAM issue. Could you have someone look into my accounts and let me know what can be done.. I would really like to stay with you!!

What you need to do is trash your currrent interface and go with a WHM/cPanel interface. Forget the in-house development as you cannot even manage what you have now without causing more headaches. Forget the cloud. You will, if past performance is any example, have a year or two before you get the problems you cause solved, by which time most of your customers will have departed for providers elsewhere. The newbies you will have left wouldn&#039;t know a CLASS host provider (DO NOT LOOK IN A MIRROR, YOU AIN&#039;T IT!) from a pathetic one (now you can look). Heck, you guys can&#039;t even provide a perl module that was requested because you do not know how to properly set up security on your servers!! As for tech support, until they can, without excuses that try to lay the blame on the customer, actually solve the problems/concerns/requirements of the customer, calling what you have is a pathetic joke. Get people in there that know what they are doing, empower them to do what they have to in order to serve the customer, teach them that excuses are like the orifice that every creature on earth has and they all stink and should NEVER BE MADE! Maybe then you MIGHT start pulling yourselves up from the bottom of the web hosting providers list. Heck one day you might be able to achieve a fair ranking instead of a poor one!!!

Hi, I just want to let you know - this is my first year. Putting aside a couple of bumps here and there b/c of my newbieness, I love your Windows hosting plan. It really is unparalleled. I searched for months for a TRULY unlimited plan - and you guys nailed it! I just have one single request: In SQL Server Management Studio - I&#039;d really like to not see EVERYONES databases. And I especially don&#039;t want everyone to see mine. This is insanely insecure. So put together the fact that everyone can see my db&#039;s, and the inconvenience of always trying to find my db to work with - I have to give you guys a 9 out of 10. But if you can take care of this - you guys will be perfect as a hosting company! Customer service is another issue though LOL. But it looks like you&#039;re working on that too - cool. Dennis

Thrilled to hear of the improvements. Have been a charter customer of yours - and was a customer of your previous company. No complaints with web service. Still receive lots of junk mail to ANY e-mail created/managed in your environment - even if they are not on a website where they can get crawled. I do not have this problem with addresses hosted at gmail, yahoo, godaddy on my other domains. Ironport helped reduce spam a lot, but we still get more than our fair share of offers for blue pills, various forms of body enlargements and lonely women looking for company or relationships. ONLY on addresses hosted at ixwebhosting. Generally support has been satisfactory, though live chat has about 50% resolution for me. Overall satisfied with value, but can&#039;t grow business because of e-mail security issues.
  • I have been quite satisfied with your service, and still am. At first I suspected this email was a scam, but your tech support said it is not, so I am leaving this comment. Keep up the good work.

I appreciate your attempt to provide better service to the customers. I also like to know if you are planning to help the customers to prepare their web pages with easy and free sofware. Thank you.

    Hi Fathi,
Than you for this wonderful sharing.

I have been with IX for more than 1.5 years. I'm impressed with your customer support. I can get quick fixes done to keep my business running without major failure.

I read about 'cloud' hosting system and I can't believe that I'm going to experience it here with IX. I'm sure you guys have put in all the effort to make this an ultimate customer experience. Great work guys.

    Thank you.

sounds great Fathi, keep up the awesome work-
  • Hi Fathi, i'm an italian customer and this year i decided to change my host and come in IX.
I'm so happy about these changes (also 'cose the only one thing i notice that could be better is the time to access and do query to the database) so if the infrastructure will be better it's a great news for us (customers).
Please continue to do your best and improve services, and you will be rewarded from your actual and future customers.
    Best wishes.

    Max.
